The Association has two forthcoming events. Firstly an training evening with Environment Agency Bailiffs has been arranged for 1st April. Secondly a invertebrate monitoring study day will take place shortly. If you are interested in either of these events, please contact the Secretary for details.

A reminder to members that the winter fly tying classes have now commenced. Fly tying classes for all levels of fly tyers are held on Monday evenings at the Conservative Club, Bridgend. Please contact the Secretary for further information.

Members are advised that the brood stocking program is still underway and the Association are in need of brood fish to supplement the current stock. This will ensure that there are plenty of seatrout and salmon fry available should a natural disaster or predation at sea occur that decimates our stocks.

At this time of year the fish are coloured and full of milk or roe and will not make good eating. Take along a digital camera and get a photo. In addition, give Mark Ryan a ring at any time and he will make arrangements for any fish to be collected. Details on how to contact him are available on the Association Forum

Members may have noticed the works currently ongoing in the river near Tesco in Bridgend. This work is being carried out by Environment Agency Wales to remove excess shale from the river. Further river works will be taking place at Ogmore Vale within the next few weeks which may result in slight discolouration.

The Association has recovered £3000 in damages from Edmund Nutall Ltd following loss of fishing during the Maesteg Washery land reclamation scheme in 2004. The Association are grateful to Fish Legal for securing this sum for the Association. This follows Fish Legal’s recent recovery of £300 from another pollution incident. The Association hopes that this will send out a message to would be polluters on the rivers Ogmore & Ewenny.

Members are encouraged to attend a clean up event this Monday (29th) at Ogmore by Sea. The clean up arranged by Keep Wales Tidy will have volunteers from various organizations. It would be good to see a large contingent from the Association making the effort on what are after all our own waters. Please meet at Portobello House at 9.30am.

Following river works at Ogmore Vale last season with resultant discolouration and siltation, Jehu Construction has kindly donated £300 to the Association to compensate for the loss of fishing. Thank you to Fish Legal (formerly the Angling Conservation Association) for acting on the Association’s behalf and to Jehu Construction for this gesture.

The Association would like to extend it’s deepest sympathy to family of one of our members who has been tragically killed. Mr Hylton Price, who was 63, died after an air accident near Pothcawl on Wednesday 11th February.
