River Cleanups and Conservation

Welcome to the Conservation page!

As part of our committment to the environment, as an Association we understand that we have to work with other Organisations to achieve our overall aims. Habitat improvement, river cleanups and better water quality not only gives the fish a better chance but also has added bonuses.

With the improvement and monitoring of water quality, invertebrates flourish. With more food available, more fish are able to survive. It's not only the fish that survive on these tasty morsels but other wildlife. Many birds such as the dipper, swifts and swallows also eat these numerous insects when they are on the wing. As darkness descends, the many varieties of bats take their fill too.

With the increase in fish, many other birds and animals such as the kingfisher and otter also take a part of natures feast.

No one, least of all the Association would want to turn the clock back to when the River was little more than a pollution run off from the industrial valleys. To be on the River as a Summer dawn breaks and see the wildlife wake up with you, lifts the heart of even the most despondant of people.

The River is not ours to abuse, but something that we hold in Trust and look after for future generations to come. As such, we work closely with the following Societies and Organisations to ensure that Nature is kept in balance and flourishes.
